Southwest PA Retriever Rescue Org./Shades of Grey Sanctuary for Senior Dogs

Sandy is reported to be a 13 year old Golden Retriever who lived her entire life as an Amish puppy mill dog. She spent her full 13 years living in a small, cramped rabbit hutch in Lancaster PA. In November No More Tears rescued her from he prison and placed her in a foster home. In February they contacted us and ask if we could take her in to work with her social and behavioral issues. You see, sadly, a dog that spends 13 years locked in a box does not have a lot of social skills. When we got her you could not touch her anywhere except her head. She was not great with other dogs, and there was no way we could trust her with strangers. Now, just a few short months later Sandy is laying next to me as I type her story. It is 80 degrees outside but she is enjoying the AC in my office. When winter comes along later this year, she will be warm and dry and will be full and happy at meal time. Sandy will never have the skills to be adopted to a family of her own, but she will be more than happy to spend the rest of her life here.
